The Distinctives of a Presbyterian Church

We have the name “Presbyterian” in our church because it is part of our unique identity as a church. But if you’re like me you didn’t grow up in a Presbyterian church, you didn’t grow up hearing that word, and until recently you even had trouble spelling that word. So what is unique and distinctive about Presbyterianism? In order to answer that question I put together a new page for our website titled “Our Distinctives.” This section tries to briefly lay out and clarify the key doctrinal and practical distinctives that make up a Presbyterian church, and sadly in this day and age I have to add a “Conservative” Presbyterian church. The distinctives include the following:

  • Confessionalism

  • Covenant Theology

  • Calvinism

  • Reformed Worship

  • Lord’s Day/Sabbath

  • Lord’s Supper

  • Infant Baptism

  • Complementarianism

  • Presbyterian Church Government

With each one I’ve tried to provide a very succinct explanation and then point you to some resources that will give you more information in a way that is helpful and very digestible. So if you have questions or want to be better informed please check out our Distinctives page.
